So we did!
Beautiful, colorful, weird LIZARDS.
First we looked at pictures of lizards.
Wow! Lizards are really colorful and unique and interesting!
Next, we gathered our supplies:
dark-colored construction paper (9" x 12")
black oil pastels,
a set of soft pastels
one soft dry cloth, one slightly damp cloth (for wiping fingers).
We started by sketching the basic shape of our lizard lightly on the construction paper with white soft pastel. (Mistakes can be be wiped away with the dry cloth.) Some artists also added background details, such as a rock or a limb for their lizard to rest on.
Then we went over our lines with black oil pastel, and added a pattern within the body of the lizard.
Next, we filled in the patterns with soft pastels and rubbed them with our fingers to soften them.
