Flowers are a favorite art subject around here.
This time we painted a simple vase of flowers in an impressionistic style: loose and free. We considered only light, shape, color, and form.
We used a model, but only for inspiration. It was not our goal to copy it exactly. We wanted to capture our impression of the subject.
We broke a few rules to create this painting:
- Instead of sketching the subject first, we dove in and outlined our basic shapes with black paint.
- We used no water with our tempera paint. We simply painted with what was on the brush.
- We did blended our colors right on our painting instead of using a palette. We cleansed our brushes on a table mat when needed.
The dry paintings were 'framed' by gluing them to a piece of black poster board for a nice clean border.
